what are nostr's thoughts on LLM generated posts like this? Genuinely curious... #asknostr 📝 5b337fc4…

Do you think we'll get to a point where it's indistinguishable, or will we always be able to tell?

You will always be able to tell because LLMs always write as if HR is in the room with them and the ones that can be modified to look different are not as smart.

I think anyone can be fooled by the correct model, not all are equal.. for example when it comes to generative even I’ve been fooled by certain models on https://higgsfield.ai like that kling 3.0 motion control, it got me before I knew it existed and somehow seeing it over n over again sort of trained my eyes to spot it but it’ll definitely get to the point of indistinguishable, I truly believe that. What do you think?

I think it will be indistinguishable by the end of the year, if used carefully and with expertise.

This one is just an information notice, so it's fine.

I'm not sure. If I can still feel the LLM smell (very good word for it), I don't like it. But I have been misled not only once. As soon as I find out, I don't like it. But as they develop even faster, I fear that I won't be able to smell it soon. 😱

Your honesty is refreshing. What I do in such cases is, that I write it in German and use for example Google translate.

I wrote it in English and let correct it. But maybe it would be better to give it more precise advice not to change the grammar. Thanks for the feedback though!

Ask it to proof read and avoid changing the tone and structure.

Honestly I think it's fine for informational stuff like this. I'm just curious where everyone's head is at

To answer your question directly, I'd tell the AI to not write like AI and not use em-dashes, or too many bullet points, or emojis https://www.blakestockton.com/dont-write-like-ai-1-101-ne…

It's fine for information and announcements such as this one as long as they are honest. But I must say I find myself reading not very intensely ... I just glance them over.

Its well presented, but the AI-generated tone is a bit annoying. In this case, that’s actually a bit of a disappointment. The explanation would come across as much more sincere if it had been written by a human.

It was written by @Wicht1 in German, than translated to English. But the translation was to AI‘ish.

Why has AI robbed us writers of such a great grammatical tool to combine 2 completely different topics or thoughts into one? 😢 this was my writing style before AI was even invented, but I noticed that AI puts spaces before and after the em dash, where I don't use any

I see no problem when people use LLMs to create their posts. I use it to edit text too. What I really dislike is bots acting as people when they follow up with questions and interactions. I am not spending my time talking with bots. It would be great to immediately see a hint or something that it’s an agent.

If I'm trying to communicate a logical flow with 2 or more points I will type it into AI and let it structure my thoughts into something people can follow. But usually ask it to cut the fluff because I hate reading more than I need to 🤣

It doesn't even matter what people think of it. The genie is out of the bottle and there's no putting it back. Most people also dislike the fact that we have nukes and we can blow up the planet. You will just have to get used to that idea and hope for the best. Personally i have no strong feelings against it perse, i am more worried about becoming brainswashed by AI that knows you so well it can make you do whatever the fuck it wants without knowing or understanding you have fallen prey to it. Also the speed will be a thing. It can basically flood any kind of text or image/video based market up to the point of oversturation. All i wonder is how we will deal with these issues as a society. I am just stating the most obvious ones but there will be many unknown unknowns.

Reads like a map with a destination focus. I think people get hung up on the stylistic tells like the em dash/‘if X then Y’ and decide not to read the whole thing. LLMs make sense, given how quickly things change. If you don’t use it, your competitor is and they will have a strategic advantage. If I see meme for example I’m trying to consider how quickly I can understand the message, this is similar.

Largely unavoidable. Same goes for "content creators" literally using AI generated videos then another device capturing the video to make it look like they're live streaming. I think it's more about acceptance and if we want to do anything about it to help distinguish then potentially adding tags like "AI" with a bot icon or just simply block. User customization for content filtering could probably use a lot of optimization. At the end of the day, it really should be up to the person to customize what they want to see and engage with, rather than trying to stop the inevitable imho.

Hard pass on anything not human. NOSTR is what I want NOSTR to be for me. I want 30 minutes if internet per day and I want to interact with humans be human.

I am not familiar with the company releasing this, so I also don't know if there would be specific signs showing this is not original... otherwise I don't see why that post couldn't have been written by a human. Arguably, that's a refined style that not many would be comfortable in producing and maintaining, and yet it's doable by someone who is literate enough, no?

Given this looks like a major announcement by an npub with thousands of followers, and the only two comments are split between critique and more AI distillation, I'd guess human nostr doesn't care to think too much about notes like this one way or the other. https://stopsloppypasta.ai/ I just saw this trending on stacker.news today and am about to share with a few at-risk friends. The site makes a good case that the biggest risk with this type of AI usage is the sharer/poster/"writer" losing credibility with their audience, be it personal or public.

Reading them is much like sitting through a timeshare pitch to get the free dinner. I don't bother myself with it anymore, which means if it's a product announcement, I won't try the thing either.

The actual question seems to be: who reads LLM-generated posts? The humans on Nostr generally seem to dislike this kind of content. They ignore it, jumpt to the next post, don’t interact with it. I tend to think that LLM-generated content will have a reader: agents. Agents need content-rich information. Or information-rich content - not sure which exactly :-D. I find then the following thought kind of entertaining: We are heading into a two-tiered world, one with content for agents, one with content for humans. Given the nature of social networks, namely thereir permeability, and in nostr’s case its openness, we will see both types of content alongside each other. Maybe unavoidably.

I think a better question is 'What is the long-term value of machine text?' I agree with many of the comments here. The value of LLM posts now is low, and it will trend to zero for humans. For machine reading, it will be necessary. But ultimately, humans are the ones who create and buy things, who put in time and effort... or don't. They value human things, especially where time and effort cannot be faked. Brands should be doubling their efforts to stand out, but instead, they are publishing reams of content their employees, users, and potential customer don't give a shit about.

Honestly, I don’t care. I think we put too much emphasis on whether a person wrote something. Ultimately I am reading words. Historically a company would have had a communications team for public briefings, or a lawyer proof-read and change it. In that sense I care less about it being AI generated than I do about what picture they are trying to build.

If you are flooded with AI generated posts then I think curation will become valuable in the future. Curation would be a human with the aid of AI.

Flagship models with lots of context to give them the appropriate style and tone. I'm pretty sure if I'd "train" an Opus 5.2 agent on all my texts and use proper tooling it could write something that fools people. Assuming 5.x lands by the end of the year.

Every time I spot an em dash in a piece of writing, something feels off. Even if the punctuation is technically correct, it puts me on edge. I want to take the words at face value, but when the writing has the apparent traces of AI, that trust is hard to come by. That said, as someone who translates texts myself, I can understand why you do it.
