It grinds my fucking gears that government prevents me from shitting in a cup and sending it to a private lab, at my own expense. The reasoning? I haven't reached the arbitrary age of 45. We should be free to buy healthcare as adults. Government has no business in my healthcare. That should be between me and whoever else I choose to involve.

i envy my dog's healthcare: I talk with the vet, can order whatever testing i feel like, and the pricing is transparent (and cheap) as it is not distorted by layer upon layer of government intervention.

Isn't it sick?

Why not just shit in a cup and send it to a lab anyway? You could do one every day for a month, it'll be fun.

How is this prevented?

Good thing no one famous has recently died under the age of 45 from something that could have been treated if he had just shit in a cup and sent it to a lab.

i have no clue how to get care for myself / my family outside of urgent / emergency care / annual checkup. All just a black box and even if i did figure it out...i'd get kicked off my HMO or some shit and be back to square 1 with a new black box provider. my dog, now 16...i've been through the fucking ringer with him and I am extremely confident how to get him competent care for any of his needs from a diverse source of easily available care providers (I can get house calls for him...at a premium yes but I can get house calls for him like the doctors of generations ago). And i know how much it will likely cost..probably within 15% of the realized fees. and he can get basically any level of care that I can (if I were willing to pay for it).

You using a private lab. It's mentioned in your note. The subject of this thread. How is "the government" stopping you?

They regulate who it can be prescribed to, and under which terms, in my country... Just because something is 'private' doesn't mean the government doesn't regulate it. It also doesn't mean a lab can just process samples from anyone who wants to pay for the service. "The government" stops me by not allowing the lab to sell me the service without government's permission. There are many examples of this issue.

There are some good OTC options, but all preventative stuff like that should be OTC. I should be free to accept the consequences of higher sensitivity and the accompanying higher false positives if I wish. It's fucking diabolical that we are forced to wait until we basically have no chance to actually do anything about it.

The most fucked up aspect of this is that the regulations will only be lowered AFTER some arbitrary number of people die because they couldn't have explored all preventative options if they wanted to. We could have earlier data by allowing the free market to operate.

That sounds like communist version of "private" for sure.

I agree. But that's why it grinds my gears. You'd think one's health would be the most sacred of property rights.

Oh it is, but governments haven't been about supporting or protecting rights for a long time. They only seem to act that way right after a successful uprising, capitol sacking, or revolt. Basically, they have to feel genuinely threatened.
