~Chick update~ Upgraded the brooder. We were using a large dog kennel the last couple years but it was kind of a hassle. Had a bunch of plywood scrap and threw this together just in the nick of time. Current hatch count 13!! There about 3 more pips were waiting on. Planning on moving them to their new home tomorrow morning. #homesteadlife #chickens #brooder

Another productive day on the Ol Homestead! What a sunset to cap off the day.

Thoughts of the day. Today our IT group found out that the whole dept will be outsourced to another company. They are offering about half the positions than there are staff. I could see this writing on the wall as the last 6 months to a year has been nothing but probing and inventory from our parent company. Ironically, I'm not very distraught about the situation. See, I've been building my business for 6 years now and officially on the books the last three. I continue to build my skill sets in various other aspects to make sure I am always a valuable asset. Call it a prepper mindset, call me a go-getter, call me a polymath. Whatever you want to call it, I'm grateful for the choices I've made to allow this situation to be more of an opportunity than a hindrance. I'm now left with a choice to apply for a potential position at said Outsourcing company, find a job elsewhere, or take this opportunity to dive head first into full-fledged entrepreneurship. The choice between security and freedom. This is ultimately the hardest Choice people have to make not necessarily when it comes to a career but in all aspects of life. I'm at the point where I'm tired of the corporate game, tired of trying to prove my worth and tired of being one of the only employees who gives a shit. It feels like this is my opportunity to put everything into myself see if I really have what it takes to be a full-time entrepreneur instead of having three side gigs. The scary part is I have 5 other people depending on my success so failure isn't an option. Big choices are coming and I'm excited to have these opportunities. #dailythoughts #gogetem

Finally got around to repairing the greenhouse. It got some major reinforcement and will now be converted to a chicken run. I thought long and hard about trashing the whole thing but where there are problems, there are solutions! Repaired the broken tubing with a few pieces of cedar wooden dowels, added 2 cedar log posts for central support, 6 tposts on each side for wind support, then some upcycled wood and metal sheeting for the skirt. Only thing left are the doors and add a 5ft piece of welded wire to bring the sides higher. #proofofwork #problems2solutions #homesteading

288 onions up-potted!! Wow, dont want to make that mistake again. I usually start my onions from store bought bulb seed onions. This year I wanted to move towards seed started onion for more sustainable, and proven variety genetics. The mistake was starting them in 4" pots. They germinated great but quickly got too crowded. I then had to pot them in 72 cell trays and boy does that take a while. #Learn from my mistakes and start with the 72cell tray. They can go straight from the this tray to outdoors. No potting up needed, a d save yourself 2 hours of your life 😉 Hopefully planting celery and broccoli soon. #Grownostr #onions #mistakesweremade
