The internet loses it. We love some of the Baby Keem songs, but what does he know about autonomous AI assistants? More than most. Ok back to politics: The Pentagon quietly asks Boeing and Lockheed Martin to assess their exposure to Anthropic. The blacklist machinery starts moving. Thursday, Feb 26 — Jack Dorsey announces Block (Square, Cash App, Afterpay) is cutting 4,000 jobs (40% of the company) because of "intelligence tools." Amodei publishes his statement: Anthropic "cannot in good conscience" allow its AI to be used for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell posts the deadline: comply by 5:01pm Friday or be designated a national security risk. That evening, Sam Altman sends an all-staff memo: OpenAI holds the same red lines. An open letter begins circulating — signed by employees at Google and OpenAI urging their companies to stand together.
