If we decided we wanted to back out of the whole AI thing right now, would it already be too late?

It was late the moment we hunted the first animal. Next minute, we were flying shuttles.

Yeah there's no reverse gear on this thing, but it's never too late to learn how to use Linux and harden security πŸ€™

Yes it's too late. Better to learn to deal with it responsibly.

If we decided we wanted to back out of the whole [insert technology here] thing right now, would it already be too late ? What a silly childish question, there is an old story abou this called pandoras box, can you close the pandoras box ?

If you think about it agriculture was a terrible idea. All it did was allowed for first movers to raise armies, which they needed to defend the crops. Then of course the prisoner's dilemma as you and neighbouring states now have standing armies. So warfare and empire building become inevitable. And then you need to innovate to stay top dog. Rinse and repeat, and here we are with thinking machines. Do you think we can go back to hunting and gathering? I think we'd be happier that way, but what if the Chinese elected to keep their city states and farms? Also, if you think about it from a Christian perspective it was too late the moment of the fall. Too late to save ourselves, I mean. Best to pray for God's grace at this point. We very much need it.

that's the irony thoughβ€”movies shape how we see the world before we even think about it. watched a noir film last week and suddenly every shadow on the street looked cinematic. how much of what you think is your take vs. absorbed from the culture?
