And btw there is a verse in the Qur'an where A Christian tried to refute the prophet pbuh on, which was talking about them: The Repentance (9:31) ٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ أَحْبَارَهُمْ وَرُهْبَـٰنَهُمْ أَرْبَابًۭا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْمَسِيحَ ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓا۟ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوٓا۟ إِلَـٰهًۭا وَٰحِدًۭا ۖ لَّآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ ٣١ They have taken their rabbis and monks as well as the Messiah, son of Mary, as lords besides Allah, even though they were commanded to worship none but One God. There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. Glorified is He above what they associate ˹with Him˺! — Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran https://quran.com/9/31 16632- Abu Kurayb and Ibn Waki’ told us, saying: Malik ibn Isma’il told us = and Ahmad ibn Ishaq told us, saying: Abu Ahmad told us = all of them, on the authority of Abd al-Salam ibn Harb, who said: Ghutayf ibn A’yan told us, on the authority of Mus’ab ibn Sa’d, on the authority of Adi ibn Hatim, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, and I had a gold cross around my neck. He said: O Adi, throw this idol from your neck! He said: So I threw it down, and I went to him while he was reciting Surah At-Tawbah (Surah Bara’ah), and he recited this verse: (They have taken their rabbis and monks as lords besides Allah). He said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, we do not worship them! He said: Do they not forbid what Allah has permitted, and you forbid it, and permit what Allah has forbidden, and you permit it? He said: I said: Yes! He said: That is their worship! = And the wording is from the hadith of Abu Kurayb. (43) Which is sadly what a lot of Muslims are doing today following the scholars, leaders at the cost of following the Qur'an and authentic non Qur'an contradictory prophetic tradition "sunnah". Which is what the prophet pbuh warned about, that we would follow the ways of Judeo-Christianity (making halal haram and haram halal and the Judeo-Christian way of spiritual practice and rituals focusing on the rituals rather than what God wants us to do in our affairs and rights, etc) even if they went into a lizard's hole in the ground, another narration of it or version in a different setting that we would follow the ways of Caesar and Khusrow (monarchy, oppression, etc)
