My first dwarf banana bunch fell over once the soil got wet. It was a sucker put in about 12 months ago. The tiny bananas, leaves & stem were roughly chopped up & used for mulch. The base I dropped somewhere else to start a new clump. It's been cool watching the fruit form on a new variety, one that's much closer to the ground. I think I'll stake up the next bunch with some bamboo.

Nice. There is a verity I'm interested in that's a dwarf cold climate variety with bluish coloured fruit. Seen it for sale once before I knew what it was. Down the mountains a couple hours drive from here the lady finger grows wild all over the place but the seasons to short up this way for them

I haven't seen a dwarf version of the Blue Java but it's supposed to be reasonably cold tolerant.

The guy I got them off said he had root borers & that all his fall over from it. I've rarely had a problem with my other bananas falling over. They grow 3 times taller but have much thicker stems. The soil is pretty loose where they are. I'm not sure if it's the genetics (poor stabilizing roots) or the mysterious root borer. 🤷

Ay least being the dwarf version it didn’t have far to fall.
