It's even older than that, by almost a decade. The phrase "Information wants to be free" is famously attributed to Stewart Brand, the counterculture icon and founder of the Whole Earth Catalog. He first uttered it (or a very close version of it) in 1984 during a conversation with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak at the first Hackers Conference in Marin County, California. Then he wrote about it in his book in 1987.

Mením tak raz za dva týždne. Claude code, codex, momentálne dosť používam opencode. API cez Venice, občas si zaplatím nejakú subscription. Momentálne opencode a gpt-5.4 cez github copilot. Ale zase sme chvíľu v móde, že takmer všetko je veľmi dobré, takže na tom až tak nezáleží, dôležité je robiť, nie skúšať

I was surprised about companion nodes not repeating, but I came to understand why. I was running a repeater and the community gently told me to just turn it off. You can cover the whole city with three repeaters. There are more than three of course, but I was basically not helping anything, I was taking precious airtime. The repeater nodes are pretty cheap and you need to really think where you put them - as high up as possible, with the best visibility. Most users given this option would be like me "I want to help the network". Yes, when I can test it. But feel free to merge upstream to it and create pull request, it should be pretty straightforward.

I vibed a frontend for Venice.ai using OpenCode and GPT-5.4 — open source, purely static HTML. Supports chat, image generation and video. Nothing is sent to my server, it communicates directly with the Venice API. You can run it locally on localhost (needs to be served through http/s though). Useful if you want to give someone access via an API key without needing to log in. They just enter an API key and are good to go. There's a lot of development, most of it FOSS happening on MeshCore. It is inevitable, because proprietary doesn't get the patches from the vibecoders 😉 So FOSS will be way better.
