Twenty-three years ago this month, American activist Rachel Corrie was protesting Israeli bulldozers demolishing homes in Rafah, Gaza. On March 16, 2003, she stood in front of the Nasrallah family home, wearing a bright orange vest and speaking through a bullhorn, determined to stop the destruction.
The bulldozer did not stop. Despite fellow activists’ cries, Corrie, 23, was crushed to death while the Nasrallah children watched in horror.
