Can definitely be done diy, just be smart about it. Traps are best unless you want to risk your house smelling like decaying mouse for six months. They also eliminate the risk of poisoning wildlife.

Zap them… seriously. Get a battery powered chamber trap. Bait w peanut butter. You will catch minimum 1 every night. Easy to unload and reset. No mess. You’ll know you’ve cleared out the lot of them once you are catching young. The most humane way to deal with an unpleasant situation imo. Good luck!
Use bait boxes outside. I hired a pest control company to set them out and check them and refill them every other month. It’s shocking how much they have to refill. A lot of times the bait is completely gone. I haven’t had any issues with mice since then.
