Got my 3rd or 4th "we've been breached" letter in the mail this week. They got everything, SSNs, dobs, addresses, DLN, account numbers, transaction histories, credit card numbers, you name it. It's shame none of these were "optional" or frivolous things, financial, health, the state, insurance etc.

KYC as a concept has infinite invasiveness. Think about it, now all that data is insufficient to ID you to a stranger. What can we do? Gather MOAR data next time! This is part of my theory that society will collapse back to smaller groups as people grow up absorbing the reality of this attempt at one world mega society.

So long as more people recognize they can deny it, and work for alternatives.

That's ridiculous I'm actually wondering if the rise of agentic AI is going to cause this to get much worse.

I don't think that is what will happen. I'm a real person, not a criminal, and I've failed to verify identity to open accounts before. I just wasn't able to make an account with no path available for resolution. Millions are already debanked for other reasons. Add KYC fails in and that number will grow. Those people will make a path, not to deny anything but simply because they have no other choice.

For better or worse I suppose. Multiple of them were notices from multiple years ago, this most recent one was... recent. The older ones were ones they didn't know they had a hole until the dataset was exposed and realized it was an old one, so they had to notify us.
