This should’ve been in place since the beginning, but since it wasn’t, kids have this notion that they should have unrestricted access to the internet simply because it’s there. We can already see the adverse effects of allowing impressionable children to surf the net unrestricted.

Meta does not care about children, they only care about the bottom line and collecting people’s data including children. I don’t it think it fair to put the burden on end users. Linux and Windows is used in critical infrastructure like hospitals, gas and electricity companies! The last thing they want is unnecessary complexity added to their system, like age signals. I believe it better to have restrictions at ISP and Router level.

I’m not really concerned with their motivations, I’m simply pointing out that these restrictions should’ve been there since day one. People hear restrictions and the knee jerk reaction is to start screaming about “muh freedoms, but if it were in place from the beginning, no one would be saying a thing, it would be accepted as the normal. Sort of like the whole,”no shoes, no shirt, no service” signs you seen damn near everywhere, you don’t even give it a second thought or try to understand why that is, it just is. Then when people were asked to wear a mask, that’s when the knee jerk reaction kicked in and people starting screaming again because they felt like their freedoms were being infringed on, but the truth of it is, if you were always expected to wear a mask, it wouldn’t bother you, just like it doesn’t bother you to be expected to wear a shirt and shoes when entering a building.
