DEFINITELY SOME SORT OF ROCK 🎸🎸🎸 Today, I dropped my first new music of 2026 on all the legacy platforms. The Writing's On The Wall 🔥🔥🔥 But honestly, what really gets me fired up is releasing it right here in Nostr/RSS wonderland. I know music’s not the biggest thing here (yet), but I’ve got some serious hopes that’ll change in 2026. It honestly feels like the perfect place for music to thrive, don’t you think? ♪♫ Plus... I’ve got a hunch this new track might hit home for the Nostriches out there. Oh… that’s a shame, especially if it's originating from @2250f696…9901248b and is spreading from there. Funny enough, my last few releases haven’t gotten a single zap, which is a bit surprising. But hey… maybe I’m just a glorious disaster. Open to anything these days… haha 🙂

Exactly. It was empty at the time I mentioned it. But then I checked again when you brought it up 7 hours ago, and then it was showing. So yeah, clearly some kind of lag was playing tricks on something 😅 You’re of course 100% right about promoting fully self-hosted #DeMu. I totally agree it’s better to be fully responsible for it yourself. But at the time, when I was completely new to all of this, Wavlake felt like a nice way to dip my toes into RSS while still managing everything else with my old routines. Now I feel a bit stuck with Wavlake, since I apparently can’t combine two separate RSS feeds for one artist. I have realized that I need to take everything down from Wavlake to transition fully to DeMu. My original transition plan was to start doing my own feed that would co-exist with Wavlake, and then take down Wavlake eventually, just like you would do in the legacy world where you could have part of the catalog on DistroKid and another part with Tunecore, while Spotify users would never know since everything was nicely presented under one artist name. But now I understand that this cannot be done with RSS. This does not change anything about me making the transition, but there are a few nice features in Wavlake that I would like to figure out how to replicate myself first. For example, it is really nice to have some basic stats on releases, just to see if anyone is actually checking out the music, even if they are not zapping it. I would also like a clean way to include a proper player preview in my Nostr posts when I link to music. I have been using Wavlake for that so far. But I just realized that I can just share a Fountain or V4Vmusic link instead. Pretty obvious, but I guess I had too much on my mind back then, haha. Also, when I tried that before, I did not get a player preview in Primal, but Wavlake worked fine, so I was a bit confused about the whole thing. However, I just tested again in Yakihonne and non-Wavlake links works fine there, getting a nice player in the preview, so I guess that was just a Primal thing combined with a confused rock guitarist brain 🎸 Anyway, I am rambling now 😉 Yes, I will make the transition within the next couple of months, just trying not to stress it while juggling everything else ♪♫ By the way, how are you doing it? Have you found a nice, simple setup you would recommend? My first thought is just to use my existing website hosting for the feed and audio files, but I have not figured out how to make nice stats and things like that yet.

My first toe was dipped into wavlake. I simply renamed my artist to "Matt Finlay (Wavlake)" and started doing DeMu. I'll take wavlake offline when I get around to it. I use new.musicsideproject.com @Music Side Project 2.0 to create the feed XML files. Yes, just put all the files on my website. You might be able to view the download stats if that's available on your host/site. Not as nice as wavlake - there's probably better reporting options but I haven't looked into it.

I got Claude working on a prototype right now. It's over confident when I vibecode on my phone so I'll have to have it double check it's work when I get how but the idea is have a toggle like the explicit toggle that turns the OP3 stuff on and off. Toggle it one and when you make a feed it adds the prefix to your url in your feed. Then you simply update the feed where ever it's host like you would any other changes.

Wavlake, Fountain and RSS Blue have always made publisher feeds for artist and selfhosters can use sovereignfeeds to make their own. I've been building this into Music Side Project 2.0 to make it easier for self-hosters. The issue is tying all of these together across different hosts. Could we make a publisher feed of publisher feeds maybe but each host would have to be onboard so you can add that info into the feed. What I do with StableKraft.app is if you have a publisher feed I make a page for you, with the publisher feed content at the top and label it as official and then search my database for anything that matches that same artist name and that stuff gets added to the bottom of the page as other releases. For Longy since the names don't match he has 2 publisher pages on SK right now. @Oscar Merry I'm open to any ideas you may have.

@ChadF and 33 others since Wavlake don't support feed redirects - the best thing for Artists if they want to switch to self-hosting is to delete their content from Wavlake after they've setup new feeds on Music Side Project. However if not done correctly this creates another issue of duplicate artist profiles in Fountain and other apps. Maybe Music Side Project could have an "Import from Existing Feed" function that maintains the publisher, album, and track guids? The most important thing is that the guids stay the same - if this is the case we can resolve duplicates on our side easily without losing any of the nostr data.

ChadF and 33 others32d ago
Keeping the GUIDs and deleting the items from wavlake is the plan if that's what people want to do. The site will import any music feed and allow users to edit the sections I support.

Interesting discussion. I'm learning a lot. Btw... I just had a look at my SK page and can see that it misses 6 releases. Is that because Wavlake has changed something, or a SK thing? That being said, SK looks great ♪♫ https://stablekraft.app/publisher/henrik-flyman

OK so if originally I used wavlake to distribute, which created my original artist publisher GUID hence my artist page in fountain and other RSS apps, would the play be to simply add that publisher guid generated by wavlake into any self hosted XML? And then the release should appear under our artist page? Or would the better play be simply to use the publisher feed feature in MSP to aggregate the releases as they are without changing the XMLs? And is deleting from wavlake necessary for both of these options to not break anything? Asking because it looks like our latest RSS release has not been placed into our original artist page. @Oscar Merry @Music Side Project 2.0

Your artist page in Fountain (linked below) is based on the publisher feed you have from wavlake. That profile will only show wavlake releases since they are the ones that made that feed. Making a new publisher feed anywhere else will make you a new profile since that's a different feed in a different place. https://fountain.fm/artist/oRQ9Bi6W2HVsOyhPiJPs

ChadF and 33 others30d ago
Correct. @c44ab6ee…9e9f740c is having this issue with Longy right now which is what started this convo. Longy has a Wavlake and Self Hosted publisher feed now. Could all of this be combined somehow? Maybe but if you have the same music in 2 places that also gets confusing if they are combined b/c then you would have duplicate items unless you filter out the duplicates but which ones get filtered out? https://fountain.fm/artist/8WjaMQiEL72yy16HsBpe https://fountain.fm/artist/zwETWDLjB2eb8RzrCH81
