Important in the grand scheme, yes, but still not relevant to whether this is a generally wise policy. A basketball player might get benched for taking a bad shot in a big game, even if the shot went in, especially if that player had a history of taking and missing bad shots and had assured his coaches that he would stop doing it.

But we don't care about whether it's a wise policy generally. That's a question for statisticians. We care whether it was wise in this instance, and that we won't know until the result is in.
