Once you understand how #Pubky uses #Kademlia to manifest a mathematically perfect ethereal mesh of resources floating in free space and addressable by public key, all you have to do is close your eyes and make the decision to leave relays behind. How about a resource, or several? 😀

all good, ya sorry to crash your thread. I did spend a lotta time discussing the architecture with some that had used it, and nobody had run a server or could explain anything about it. do you for example, see anyone on there in your 'feed' from a different homeserver?

i duno, vaporware only typically gets a single chance from me these days. and that was when it was promoted to me.. soh. i assume there is more now, this is first im learning these docs are out of date and the indexer just doesnt exist i guess, which is where i determined the choke point would be for homeservers being part of the known network.. to me it sounded like bsky style where sure, run your own, but if you aren't accepted into the nexus you will just be isolated.

you literally didnt read your own marketing slop. the nexus indexer bro. its the whole lynchpin of the supposed discovery that is so superior 😂😂😂

Last time I looked at that it had a stupid agreement. 📝 dd3931db…

Agreeing to not upload illegal content to someone else's server (etc.) is a prerequisite for app distribution. But you can run your own Pubky homeserver and make your own rules.

yeah, and then run your own nexus aggregator and your own client. saying 'you can just run a homeserver', is not enough for you to avoid their terms. anyway, seems like a lot of services to run, vs nostr you truly can just run a relay. cool story tho. source: https://docs.pubky.org/Architecture

The client is a web app, and Ed25519 key management can be handled anywhere (inc. hardware devices like Nitrokey). Nexus hasn't even been built yet. ... so a sovereign homeserver negates the necessity to sign-up to anything. You can install Pubky Ring from .apk

oh, huh. so the whole nexus thing, thats not needed? til.

The note I quoted (which is not coming up for me) was agreeing that I'm over 18. I can't remember where it came from exactly, but I was the first thing I encountered when attempting to use it at all.

Also, if I have to run a server, I have a protocol for that. HTTP.

My understanding of the architecture - which might be wrong since I'm not involved in the project whatsoever - is that the nexus codebase will merely index content in order to make discovery faster. The current position is a mesh of homeservers, leveraging Kademlia... so instead of web-ring, we have homeserver-mesh. But Kademlia mathematically optimises peer connections (based on available resource of each node) to achieve whole-mesh-optimality. I haven't had a chance to spin-up a homeserver yet since I don't have much spare time during winter, but it's on my backlog. I saw in the recent dev call that homeserver admin panel now has a nice clickable user interface... and there's also an Umbrel homeserver app that's either been released or is close to release.

it all seems very hyped for not having it built yet. i dislike when someone promotes something agressively and i go glance at it and there is nothing there to use. (which was the case here when it was advertised to all of nostr, there was no app, the source wasnt published, there was invite only single home server). so i will actively dismiss most projects that do that. its called vaporware, where I'm from. i will hear about it once it is existing, or i wont. that saves me time. once you start running more of the stack i'd be interested in your experience with it.

Also, I assume nexus will also be decentralised (i.e. option to run locally or intra-community)

Nexus has in fact been built and is running as the backend of pubky.app

There's an Umbrel homeserver that's either been released or will be soon.
