wow, I was only joking when I mentioned a Nostr “shadowban” )): after getting banned on twitter, everyone kept telling me Nostr was this beautiful heaven and savior for “dangerous” people like me (lol)… so I jumped in with real hope. Hearing that shadowbans can happen here too is honestly such a disappointment… On the client side: I don’t use any! I really dislike installing apps in general, so I do everything 'social' through the Tor browser: if something doesn’t work in Tor, it basically doesn’t exist for Aillia :) and I’ve tried pretty much every browser-friendly nostr client out there, so it’s def not client-specific. Thanks weev, it’s sad but really revealing. (and situational awareness is a good thing). Btw, if it’s not client-specific, is it possible on the relay level?

It is probably on the client level. A lot of clients have WoT features. I use @9be0be0f…70e5dd33 and you have to turn off Web of Trust in the settings to receive DMs from me or get notifications for my replies. In several clients it can be disabled. Maybe your client doesn’t have the capability, but it is on by default in a lot of them. I think WoT is bad because it can create bad incentives (people intentionally blocking/reporting people they don’t like to make sure their posts aren’t seen) but people don’t also realize that this behavior becomes an inadvertent act of censorship to your own followers. There’s a lot of thought going on about how exactly anti spam should be handled in Nostr. Even though WoT seems to fuck me over, I still think Nostr is the medium I want to use to communicate. It is the only thing I am not banned on. The fact that we can even have this conversation at all shows that Nostr is a great medium. Because we definitely can’t have it on Twitter, where we are both banned.
