gm, they say Bitcoin prevents war and defunds the state, but the Bitcoin industry was one of the biggest political contributors in 2024 they say Bitcoin can't be confiscated, but some of the biggest holders are governments that got the coins through confiscation Don't be fooled by utopian ideas around Bitcoin, they're all bullshit narratives What Bitcoin actually does: protects and grows your purchasing power, enables reliable peer to peer payments and acts as a check on power against central banks.

not if you lie how you spent 2 hours to get a screenshot with the number 160 on it. or keep ignoring that hashpower is expensive.

Directional ideas are not true in every inatance. bad products can make a lot of money yet, you wouldn't say "create a bad product to make a lot of money." On the average, bad products lose money. On a long time scale, Bitcoin defunds the government. incremental adoption only increases that eventuality but is not a true/false switch: I use Bitcoin therefore government goes bankrupt. The same is true about confiscation. Every "confiscated" coin was given under duress or willfully given. No one can intentionally steal YOUR coins if you do not allow it. Most criminals under duress allow the seizure. It is not utopian to be directionally correct. it is Utopian to believe monumental change happens over night.

The protocol is agnostic, and can also be used as a tool by the fiat minded.

You miss the point. The U.S. can run out of Bitcoin to finance wars, but it's much harder to run out of fiat. Self-custody works if it's properly done. It's not magic; it's proof of work. Utopians build; pragmatists follow.

Most bitcoin narratives are either complete bullshit, cope, or sloganeering to signal ingroup status. I'm still grappling with this.

Bitcoin doesn't stop wars, but the only other option we've figured out for achieving agreement is shared faith (that apparently never lasts & leads to war anyway). Bitcoin the process is a 3rd **constructive** option, whether it works practically or not, it's not an idea we should ever discard.

How does one confiscate bitcoin? People GAVE them bitcoin willingly in exchange for whatever deal the governments offered them. They didn’t jump back to block 432883 and reroute the receiving address

yes, and people always will, as evidenced by the real world result, and I don't think any of us would martyrs facing jail or death

Right.. but you're conflating a few things on purpose here. They're rosy in some ways, but not bullshit. It defunds the state in the sense that they can't print Bitcoin at the expense of everyone else. People with money, especially if this is bitcoin, will always be free to spend it as they see fit. But with Bitcoin they'll always be limited by physical reality: 21 million. Wars are not going to be non existent, but you can't fund a war forever if you can run out of money. Bitcoin is the only thing that enforces that. Sure, it doesn't prevent people from going to war, but they'll be hit with reality a whole lot sooner. They can't confiscate it the way they can with inflation on fiat. Or confiscate it by freezing your bank account. They need the private key, same as you. There's power in that. But of course.. you know all these things😄. You're just poking!

Very disappointed in Bitcoiners who aligned with Trump. But I try to have sympathy. If they knew better they would do better

I don’t know about that. But many of the big names in bitcoin went all in on the orange man cult of personality. They cheer on Venezuela invasion and Iran bombings. Low moral character.

10 years on the S&P 500 does the same "protection" though. 🤷🏻‍♂️

yes it does and that's great for banked people in America, but the other 7.5 billion people need a solution too!

Like the original Stoic, I lost all my stuff in a boating accident. There’s not bitcoin to hand over. Any such transactions that look like they’re from me are either my identity having been stolen or dca’s I can no longer access
