Good question and do not get me wrong, the domes are great. The reason I like a tipi is weight and pack ability. You also get a massive footprint to get out of the rain and move around while you’re in the back country. There’s also plenty of ceiling room to hang your clothes in the tipi to dry out with a stove if you get caught in the rain. The 8 man with all stakes and carbon pole is under 7 pounds. You could even use a long stick as the center pole save even more weight(we’ve done this). They also collapse down in a pack to about 12”x6”x6” which is essentially the bottom 1/3 of your pack and leaves space for your gear too.
