Your messages will only use the Keychat relay when your wallet has a balance, with a 1 sat stamp paid for each message. You can also disable the Keychat relay. When you have no balance, your messages are forwarded using a free relay instead. You can long-press any message you’ve sent and select raw data to see more details.
