Adapting to cold in winter is the key to thriving instead of surviving. Cold signals our mitochondria to uncouple, which will improve your bodies metabolic efficiency in a cold environment by producing more heat, up regulating fat burning, and inducing mitochondrial biogenesis (creation of more mitochondria). This doesn’t mean you need to take an ice bath every morning. Keep your thermostat <65F, go for walks with just a couple layers of clothing, and overall spend as much time as possible outside to give your body the signals it needs to thrive. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is avoidable if you embrace seasonality.
