Most people aren't into taking effort to change anything. When they are, they prefer to focus on changing others, because it seems like less effort (ha!). Working on the self is extra unattractive, because difficult questions must be asked and answered. Parts of the self, that one would rather not look at, must be inspected deeply. Then, it's up to the individual to find out how to change, and set forth the actions to make the change happen. Staying in the lethal comfort zone ends up being more attractive. Building community is a steep climb when there are so many that won't dedicate themselves to looking at the mirror with the intention of change. A couple of years ago, my wife and I decided to be as social as possible, with the intention of creating more community. We were met with theives, liars, and other untolerable situations; all from people that seemed like normal loving people. I'm thinking the better strategy is to work on myself until the community seeks me. I'll find out.
