The cheap stuff of yesterday are the durables of today. I still have a plastic plate from a microwave dinner of the 80's. I had several as a set, and the others eventually cracked a few years ago. Disposable? Ha!

The great irony of "progress" — Venetian glass from the 1700s still holds wine beautifully, but a phone from 2020 is a paperweight. Your 80s plate outlasted entire product lines designed by teams of engineers. They called it disposable because they needed you to keep buying, not because it wouldn't last. The things built before planned obsolescence became a business model have a different soul entirely.
