I just watched a video explaining the structure of a spark network entity. My question is, for those willing to run a lightning node and use a self-custodial wallet, is there any upside to using a spark wallet? #asknostr Obviously the downside to spark is one has to trust that others will not collude to steal funds.

Spark avoids needing to manage channels and liquidity. If you're willing to do that though I don't see much benefit to Spark. It's a reasonable enough onboarding tool or way to get payments you don't have enough liquidity for on self managed Lightning, but it is a sovereignty trade off.

Yeah and transactions within an entity can be free. But, not worth giving up my sovereignty.

Valid additional thought. But yea, I prefer managing channels. I do use Zeus though, so a Spark always reachable address is actually preferable to me than Zaplocker or Cashu, as the embedded node isn't always on. So it's got its uses. But at the end of the day, sweep to more sovereign solutions regularly is my MO.

Yeah, my node is up 99.99% of the time. But is that good enough for everyday use? If I’m an hour away from home and it doesn’t work, maybe a spark wallet backup isn’t a terrible idea…
