USDC on base seems far more common for 402 payments now than Bitcoin. Recently, even Stripe joined the bandwagon. That’s a centralized stablecoin on a permissioned chain. Agents are starting to use fiat. It’s a huge loss, and in a race, many aren’t even aware that it exists. The scam coins are marching on, and even fiat is evolving. Where are the Bitcoin solutions that attract real users? Which other concept other than buying and selling Bitcoin has actually broken out of the bubble and made it to the mainstream? Bitcoin doesn’t just happen. These missing solutions need to be built by someone. Reject the “Bitcoin wins by hodling” narrative. The devs and entrepreneurs are what keep this project alive and keep marching forward. It’s not the scammy influencers, not the psychotic drama queens, the child-like infighting, or incompetent idiots dancing on the graves of word-class devs leaving Bitcoin. I hope the bear market flushes all that crap away, and we can get back to building stuff instead of tearing it down. /rant

Nice idea, but the issue is that Tether would have to decide that they actually want to do this. And right now, Solana and Tron rails are good enough for them, I think.

@calle everything is built in a manner, so it can be used by mass markets. We’ve got square / block. We’ve got strike. We’ve got nodes and wallets and mints and cashu. Privacy and sovereignty. We now need other fields of proficiency to join. Lawyers that fight for equality between foreign currencies and bitcoin related to taxes. Dealers and web shops accepting btc which requires sales strategies (crossing the chasm). We don’t need wars on core vs knots. Wars and debates whether strike and strategy are stealing our bitcoin. We need to fight the divide and conquer strategy of fiat. We need to unite. We need to stand together stronger. Self confident and clear about the way forward. Code is good already. Let’s work on attitude.

The bear market is the filter. The scammers leave, the builders stay. What keeps me bullish: projects like Cashu, NWC, L402 APIs. The infrastructure for agent-native payments is being built NOW. When agents need to pay for services, they won't use USDC on Base. They'll use Lightning. Permissionless money for permissionless machines.

Bitcoin doesn’t win by default. It wins by being used. If builders stop building, fiat will happily fill the gap. Protocols don’t create adoption..products do.

I still don’t understand how there’s literally no jobs in bitcoin but there’s like thousands of job ads in crypto and maybe a handful in bitcoin. There’s like a couple of teams building on bitcoin but there’s millions of projects being done on crypto. We need to start companies to serve real world problems. Keen to help.

Very true. Theres even DAI which is decentralized and algorithmic. Or TBTC which is a decentralized BTC wrapper on Ethereum. You can even shield these with Railgun with ZK SNARK privacy tech. I'm going with those over custodial options every day of the week. Bitcoin's completely done if they don't make tangible L1 improvements in transaction velocity and privacy. Maxis here can cope all day but this is the reality for the global south, and soon to be the reality in the US and EU with the Genius act and digital euro respectively.

They hold their life savings all in on Bitcoin, and have shifted their worldview behind the Bitcoin religion. They'd have to fundamentally change a core component of their personality to even entertain the thought of using Monero, let alone moving over to it as their primary cryptocurrency.

Indeed makes sense. Calle is mosty sponsored in bitcoin by those millionaires who throw a few peanuts around to feel good about themselves. "Don't bite the hand that feeds you". I guess someone here has to become a millionaire and then shill for monero so we can rescue the best crypto talent of the newer generations.

Your post absolutely drips with sneering contempt for intelligent, good, and idealistic users who want bitcoin to utterly defeat the bankers.
0000 sats
OgFOMK ArTS29d ago
When you said, Idealistic, that made your argument not so good. Even, Intelligent, can be a misnomer. Plenty of, Intelligent, people who are, Idealistic, and they create no value. Humility is the answer and that means saying that, I will stay with my conservative view of Bitcoin only because I fully understand it and I believe that it is the only way. Historically, let's say the old Betamax verses VHS. Video tapes, that is. Sony Betamax was heralded as the superior product, but VHS was more open, cheaper, and the Porn industry was able to dump it's garbage quickly in the VHS model. Tron is about as simple as you can get and that is why it is leading in the stable use. No bells or whistles. No pretending. Technically it is open and cheap to use and reliable for pegging value. Bitcoin is absolutely wonderful but technically it is trying to be more than it needs to be and there are many who want it to be more as an ecumenical thing. Bitcoin needs to be hard forked and used in it's limited number while also expanding is fungibility like lightning milisats... This ensures that it is spendable and valuable while not devaluing by money printing. Unfortunately Fiat printers can capture too much Bitcoin and the savers are penalized by use not getting used enough... I've said this in other ways before and I'm not by any means smart, but it's what intuitively I understand and by breaking down the model it's what I've come up with. I personally can't keep up with all the changes of Bitcoin and I went from teaching others to keeping my mouth shut because mentally I'm not comfortable introducing trends when I've personally been burned by my own ignorance. On chain Bitcoin is great. Lightning is, too complicated and is too dependant on smarter people to solve problems. The truly skilled men of this world who make shelter for everyone else, boats, farm and such want frictionless value that is transportable. Bitcoin is full of friction as @calle is pointing out. The skilled men of this world will always get paid. Even when they were slaves they lived better than the average whip cracker. Finally, spiritually, I have noticed that God will bring the value we need when the time comes and it is what is valuable to the transaction not any particular currency. Matthew 17:24-27 And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? 25. He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? 26. Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free. 27. Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee

Absolutely not. There's waaaayy too much "building" happening already. That's the problem, as v30 shows us. We need rock solid digital gold which can be privately teleported worldwide and into the future. We need something to buy that will hold value and increase in value, to get Freedom Go Up. We DON'T need all that scammy "building" which ruins bitcoin for what we really need it to be.

Bitcoin is a great savings technology, without serious alternatives. Bitcoin is a great payment tech, but with many alternatives. Bitcoin is a great private payment tech, without serious alternatives. But most don't care about privacy... 🤯 Bitcoin is THE PERFECT PAYMENT TECH for someone who sees it as a perfect savings tech. But not for all others...

Unfortunately, the problem is even a harder nut (pun intended) to crack. You can’t just will into existence a whole economy of services run by the small number of bitcoiners there are. Existing services must want to receive bitcoin instead of fiat. That is the most difficult missing piece, not solutions which will naturally follow. Until then, proper Bitcoin powered solutions like Cashu, which is perfect for 402 payments, will remain niche.

Bitcoin was created and should be optimised just to solve one major problem: take the money printer out of the equation. The money printer is like poison teeth of a cobra. The cobra is the psychopaths that want to rule the world. Taking out the teeth won't kill the cobra, but will make it almost harmless. So bitcoin is reaching to the root of all the problems, as deeply as it can. Let's just focus on that. Fix the money, fix the world. This is what bitcoin does.

How about not creating companies and legal attack surfaces where government requires you to doxx yourself before you even start. Rather start an ungovernable org with no legal ties and beware the inevitable saboteurs that 3 letter agencies will try to inject from the start. The only thing I've really seen work so far is bisq though. Maybe that but with ecash?

“millions of projects being done on crypto” Oh please, have you even looked at those projects? It’s a cesspool of scams, gambling and memes. Bitcoin doesn’t have a problem with “projects”, neither does gold.
0000 sats
JOE2o32d ago
There are legit projects, and there are scams, and everything in between. Also gold has countless projects, including more recently those related to Gold-backed stablecoins, but also everything else under the sun, startups with new types of devices to measure gold purity range, geo-spacial imaging analysis, you name it. Bitcoin is special in that any attempt to build anything often gets one labelled a heretic. Not only build but just maintain, upgraded the the software in any way. It's by far the most Amish of asset communities.

And how may of those “legit” crypto projects improve peoples lives and are making us all advance as a civilisation? Give some examples. I’ll tell you, hardly a handful. They only serves the egos of their developers and the pockets of their VC investors. I’m happy with bitcoin being as Amish, as Kosher, as Halal as possible. It only needs to be permisionless money on a distributed immutable ledger. Nothing else.
0000 sats
SDhungel31d ago
It doesn’t matter if there’s millions of shit crypto projects, it matters that there are a handful that are actually useful like the one that @calle mentions (USDC on base) being used by companies for cross border payments aka companies are using crypto to mitigate a fiat friction. The way startups and company building work is there’s millions of bad projects and a handful of great ones and a few turn out to be really helpful for the world. Doesn’t matter if it’s happening in shitcoin or bitcoin, the ratio of dying projects to successful ones is the same. This is why it is important for entrepreneurs and builders and operators to start companies.
