What do you guys think about creators that just cross post content from other platforms on to Nostr? It seems like to me there is more community engagement when posts are original or feel more personalized, vs the tonality of speaking to a wider audience on the mainstream platforms.

I personally don’t care as long as engagement is balanced as well. the issue I see often is people will cross post to nostr for the zaps but exclusively engage on xitter

There's definitely more engagement when people make content specifically for nostr. The intention behind the content is different. I don't blame anyone for cross posting. There are a lot of platforms to keep track of and for bigger names the money is not on nostr. The real engagement comes from creators that engage with the comments on their posts in a genuine way. That's a rare event when it happens.

I’m fine with it. Some of the social media platforms provide the tools that make it dirt simple to create contents. I may have a problem with TikTok and Facebook, but doesn’t mean I have a problem with some of the content.

I’m fine with it, as long as they are using Nostr in spreading their content, and hopefully over time start engaging and migrating their data more on Nostr

Yes I can see that perspective for sure!

Too many ppl on any social media platforms are just attention seekers. I prefer to be authentic. I know that not everyone will like what I say etc. I'm not here to become popular lol. There were times I had more than enough of publicity in my life. When I look back it was time when my life was destroyed. Reason was my ego. Long story short. Something like that in English.

Ya, You can totally feel it when it’s a cross post. But Nostr wants alllll the information. So I’m happy to see it

People are free to use Nostr however they wish so if cross posting from other platforms is what they want to do then I don’t have a problem with it. I do agree with you that more personalised content targeted toward the audience is likely to be better received. I think engagement can be a strange thing on Nostr sometimes though. Without algorithms I’ve found that it can vary a lot even with simple things like the time of day that you are posting.

I agree and I’ve seen a few discussions recently about the need for better mechanisms to discover content on Nostr. At the moment the only real option is to repost things that you don’t feel got the visibility that you expected. I occasionally repost 8-12 hours later if there is something I think the other half of the world may be interested in seeing. I personally don’t want a fully algorithmic feed but algorithms that can be enabled to see notes that I missed while sleeping or to help discover new unique content would be useful.

Delayed reposts would help. Otherwise you end up with a feed full of the same popular posts at any one time

I'm trying to understand it too. Been crossposting some of my things from here to other platforms, as Nostr has become my central platform for content spreading.

I don't really mind "how" people post, as long as it is relevant on Nostr and they do respond on Nostr. To me, it seems a bit off if it is posted from some other network, like say X, and all the links are X links. Or if it is just a bunch of posts and the creator never engages or responds on Nostr. That said they can post whatever they want, I may not follow them though.

It's good in either way.. Nostr needs content.. the less people have to switch back to their Fiat-world to get the iinfo they're hearing about, the more it's probable they'll stay.

Yeah I see this happen sometimes. My feed gets flooded with reposts because someone wakes up and decides to repost everything they posted the previous day all at once! I try to limit my reposts only to notes that I think people might have missed and would find interesting, or sometimes quote repost if there is additional useful information that I can add.

When you’re limiting your reposting you are in effect self-censoring. I understand why you do it, but that shows a gap in #nostr that needs to be addressed because we should be looking to repost MORE, not less, but we both know that wouldn’t make feeds better right now. Repost with an optional time delay would be fairly easy to implement

I agree about the self-censoring but realistically a lot of my posts don’t need the extra visibility. Someone on the other side of the world doesn’t need to see my GM post 12 hours later! It is obviously different for someone creating content and wanting to get the maximum audience. Have you had a look at https://shipyard.pub? I haven’t tried it but it allows scheduled posts and it looks like it supports time delayed reposts.

Yeah saw it ages ago. Scheduled posts is the same mechanism, we just need it on the reposts and as an option so Quote/Repost/Delay Repost - they all have separate purposes
