ok this laptop has annoyed me for too long it’s lead to me stripping out its ram + ssd 😄 (keeping 16GB RAM separate for when I need it in future) and for the SSD? I’ve put it in this old MacBook Air 2014 🧵 [Quoted 2026-03-15 13:33 UTC] > lol i forgot how annoying this laptop is with its fucking keyboard and awful battery > shame i have to get rid of the thinkpad so soon, gonna feel like a while with this again until the Neo comes rip nostr:0ad0101b751aaac330e71a4ccf26167b60121c5245fc3319ce43cb39f6679240 [alt 1] Inside of the 2014 MacBook Air model. not sure which version of macOS I’ll put on this either, I’m trusting that all versions will work with this M.2 SSD (even through the adapter), but might have to use OCLP to get a newer version (Big Sur?) on it (Only got 4GB RAM btw).

I tried to fix this back in 2024, but back then I ordered a faulty Corsair SSD which ended up leaving it still not working… but I just realised that my 1tb crucial SSD likely works in it (I’ve got an M.2 → Apple adapter in the SSD slot below the SSD).

I’m also just hoping that it was actually just an SSD failure that had caused this to break 3-4 years ago anyways.. I’m assuming it is as I tried its SSD in my laptop, and it couldn’t read it whatsoever!

the charger for this has been dodgy af for a while now, it’s like totally stripped the protection layer outside the actual wiring for a while, leaving the actual wiring exposed, so I’m not plugging that in (last time I did it broke the extension lead I used 💀)

so I’ve just ordered a third-party charger for this off of Amazon. I know this Mac won’t be great, but I’m only using it for a few weeks or so until the MacBook Neo ships to the store here. At least this Mac has a working keyboard tho, unlike my Lenovo laptop.
