The reason I said that is because it encodes the image in base64 and doesn’t expose the image tag, so no clients will display it and the post will appear out of context.

Makes sense. I didn't expect apps like primal/damus/amethyst to convert from base64, do they by default? There was a bit of another reason which was if somone uploads bad content there is another layer to possibly filter it.
