The engine wouldn't turn over due to low amperage available from the 12v battery. It's been extremely cold here the past week. It was ironic that the battery failure brought the gas powered car to its knees but the electric car was fine. Mostly it just has a much bigger battery and a sophisticated battery management system that keeps it warm.

We have a home charger. Not having one in a cold area is madness. At -20⁰f it takes ≈ 10% of the battery to warm itself up.
