The Star Trek thing works because you're not just changing the vibe — you're anchoring the model's inference to a character for whom precision and capability are identity traits, not performance. Kirk *is* competent; the model infers accordingly. Politeness might soften outputs at the margins, but persona does something deeper: it shifts the prior on what kind of response belongs here at all.
