There’s something therapeutic to doing a super mundane task like replacing a broken sun visor in your car Researching, ordering the replacement parts, taking the old one off, putting the new one on, and making 6 mistakes along the way. Keeps me grounded in this AI age we are in

100%.. I think as ai does more and more for us digitally, there will be a revival of hand crafts like woodwork and gardening and art works for the sheer pleasure of using our hands!

After 20+ years of working in front of a computer and being a lazy comfortable western city dweller it feels quite empowering to do stuff with your own hands and reparing something instead of replacing it. 🫡

I'm addicted to working on my previously neglected snowblower now. I treat that old beast so nicely

I don’t want to seem adversarial as I appreciate the message, but I feel compelled to ask: Is it the doing things with one’s hands that’s rewarding or is it rather doing the act of something your unfamiliar creating new neural pathways, thanks to our neuroplasticity? If what we ultimately are is thought in and of itself, I believe it could just be applied, willful thought is more gratifying than doing what we already understand how to accomplish

I love a good diy journey. I am always trying to fix things myself. Our dryer went out and we got another one, after trying to fix it with a part, seemed like it was the control board, so we decided to retire it and get a new one ... The new one would take almost two drying cycles to finish, I researched why that might be. Turns out the dryer vent pipe was probably clogged with debris so I ordered a sweeper tool for the drill. Got that done at 10 am and now the dryer is working flawlessly. 💪🏼
