I am now "Retired" again. I am no longer a dog walker. I enjoyed it while it lasted (About 8 weeks). The thing is, you see, my new dog, Ghost, has separation anxiety. Having spoken to a canine behaviourist who specialises in such things, you simply can't leave them alone for longer than they're comfortable with if you want to cure them of it. There is no quick fix, we're talking months here, not weeks🙄. It is a very slow process that takes time, patience and expertise. It's little wonder that so many dogs who are re-homed from shelters are returned because they suffer from it and their respective new owners, after a number of months just aren't equipped to or are unaware of how to deal with it. So, no more dog walking for me, it's all about Ghost and I, on an 8 week intensive program, with a specialist, to make him better. Even then, he could be a bit better, or a lot better or not better at all. All dogs are different and they all have to go at their own pace. I'm committed to it, as long as it takes because, quite frankly, I value dogs more than people!

I'm not sure if it works with older dogs, but when Mosha was younger I would put a piece of my unwashed laundry (t-shirt or hoodie) in her bed for her to snuggle with while I was gone to work, the smell was comforting I assume. She has never had issues with anxiety since.
