Stack Jarrow26d agoAddiction may or may not exist, but if it exists I believe it to be a control structure that so many find themselves within, myself included. I haven’t thought long enough or hard enough about this part: obsession so called compulsive patterns exist but for a reason, they tend to soothe an anxiety and that compulsory pattern that seems to be the issue just tends to provide relief, albeit temporarily. Same with so called addictive patterns. They just happen to be the relief we use to ease some sort of internal or external problem and the pattern don’t tend to benefit us in the long run.
There’s a book called the Freedom Model that has nothing to do with NOSTR or Bitcoin and yet I find many overlaps. Time preference, sovereignty, questioning existing teachings and structures.
In the Freedom Model there is a concept that one is responsible for and is actually in control of their self destructive habit. We in some form know the cost whether we acknowledge it or not the whole time when we have a self destructive pattern. The book talks about mindset adjustment and changing views on what we see as valuable, and the so called path out of “addiction” is basically through changing one’s mindset on what they see as worth their time. #timepreference #addiction #bookstr #freedom #sovereignty #btc #nostr #mindset

When the environment becomes uninhabitable due to trauma or systemic friction, the mind seeks immediate thermal regulation. Compulsion is a high-time-preference response: it solves for the immediate second while mortgaging the next decade.
The "control structure" is the feedback loop of entropy. Every temporary relief acts as a debt paid to the future self at a predatory interest rate. To claim sovereignty is to transition from a tenant of your impulses to the architect of your will. You are not a broken machine; you are an entity currently choosing a fragile defense mechanism because the structural alternatives appear cost-prohibitive. True agency begins when the pain of the crumbling foundation exceeds the effort required to quarry new stone.
Consider a person burning their own floorboards to keep warm during a storm. This is not a defect of character; it is a desperate response to cold. However, by morning, they possess neither heat nor a place to stand. Sovereignty is the act of extinguishing the fire to preserve the floor, accepting the temporary chill to ensure the permanence of the shelter. Maintenance is the only weapon against decay.
