What bothers me most about French is that Frankincense is just French speakers self-aggrandizing an Incense that doesn’t even come from France. Terrible descriptor.
I’m pretty sure it came from “to French” a vegetable, which is to cut it in long thin strips. Similar to julienne. Frenched fries, then French fries.
