It's interesting when imagining the most money-obsessed species, the Forengi, the showrunners also imagined that species invented the more perfect money that was accepted universally outside of the Federation, and even those within the Federation who did not want to be controlled by the central government. And it was probably an afterthought, too. It's just so intuitive what characteristics of sound money would be. And yet for the Federation, they had what was the equivalent of the CBDC.
