Nostr is great because of all the developers, we tell ourselves. Turns out we developers are becoming near irrelevant. What Nostr desperately needs is professional product designers, willing to attempt projects that have a real chance to compete with fiat equivalents. How do we attract them?

Early protocols attract engineers. Mature ecosystems attract product designers. Talent follows incentives.

Designers rekt the web. I'm sure they'll come and do the same here in due time, but for now perhaps we can sit back and enjoy the duct tape and spit that everything is held together by. It gives the place more character.

We don't. Why would they show up here unless they themselves have a need or find it interesting?

Bitcoin's success did not need professional product designers, either. Nostr needs product designers as much as Bitcoin does. Neither is a product. Both are protocols each of which allow a network to develop organically, and there is no better proof of genuine superiority than organic growth. Nostr apps do need good product design, just like hardware wallets do, but that's a totally different issue. You have built products yourself @franzap. Honest question to you: What were the obstacles for better product design?

To attract people to nostr you need a massive marketing campaign. That is all.

I don't think so. The next generation does not understand why they need to signup somewhere, why they would need an Email, or why some detached entity would have the right to exclude them from content. Hang in there. It only takes one killer app. Only a matter of time, imho.
