The real year doesn’t begin in January, it begins in March. Nature sets the timeline, not the calendar: with the spring equinox, light overtakes darkness and biological cycles restart. In ancient Rome, the year began in March, a month tied to action and renewal, and even the names of the months still reflect that original order. January is an administrative agreement. March is a real reset.

Yes, the Romans did add extra days to reconcile lunar months with the solar year, and Saturnalia was indeed an extraordinary spectacle. But that adjustment doesn’t change the symbolic structure of the year: March still marked the beginning of the civic, military, and agricultural cycle. Intercalary days fixed the math. March defined the meaning.
