Privacy Is Dignity33d ago
Have people stopped to question this phenomenon of "money laundering"? It's a term used to coerce us into compliance. The term "money launderers" makes us think of international drug barons, funneling their money through crypto exchanges. 1): We. Don't. Care. It's not worth all of us little people giving up our privacy in order to stop these enigmatic boogeymen. 2): The international drug-smugglers are not what the regime is really chasing... Rather, they want to make sure us little people pay every penny of tax the regime thinks it deserves. That's where the biggest money is, not seizing El Chapo's accounts. So Bob the plumber who doesn't declare his job paid in BTC is a "money launderer" with the same label as international terrorists. Erm, no. I see language manipulation at play here. Shame on crypto exchanges for cooperating with AML regs, and attacking the privacy of the little people. It's not what crypto is supposed to be.

"money laundering" is like "hate crimes" money anonymization is not illegal, and neither is hate. However the state WISHES it could make those things illegal, so it settles for increasing the penalties of other crimes based on whether the crimes are associated with hate or money anonymization.

Money laundering and money anonymization are impossible to prevent. If authorities can't catch someone based on the evidence and witnesses from the crime itself, then police should just give up. They already lost; any attempts to catch a criminal after that point are just wishful thinking. The biggest problem isn't money laundering happens; the biggest problem is that money anonymization has such a high barrier to entry that only criminals can pull it off, and that's not fair.

Oh yeah we can definitely talk about the justification for civil disobedience in the current case, but at least on paper tax evasion is a crime. Money laundering is pure mind rape, there's just no justification for it to be criminalized that isn't pure tyranny.
