A different kind of progress today... I added a description to my Nostr profile, set up a Codeberg account, created keys for signing releases, set up my first repository online, chose an open-source license, configured git, and uploaded my code!!! There's still plenty of building to do before it's ready for real users, but now it's officially visible to anyone interested. Being on Nostr spurs me on, hanging around so many builders! Hi! None yet, just GrapheneOS for now. But there are a few in early production I'd like to try - I'm guessing that'll be for my next phone. If Google locks alternative app stores out of Android, a lot of people may be needing to make a switch. When I got a degoogled phone, I was pleased to see many of the apps I'd been using all along were open source. It made the transition way more pleasant. So I might as well start building the apps I want on my next one!

Neither was I! I was thinking of self-hosting with Forgejo, and I still might as an alternative, so Codeberg makes sense. It's a German non-profit hosting Forgejo for open-source software. I didn't want GitHub, GitLab didn't seem like the answer either. As a user for a day so far, I'm happy with it! Haha. A few apps I've used are on it, which is cool.

I was amazed the first time I heard Microsoft owns it... the vast majority of open-source code is hosted on a platform under the control of a corporation that embodies the opposite. The switch would be harder for devs with a long history there, working on each other's projects, I'm sure. I just had an old account as a user who wanted to report an issue once in a while. So I didn't mind starting fresh on a platform with better ownership, with a new account to match my Nostr profile.
