Great read by brother Bheria https://bheria.substack.com/p/the-accidental-reader-lesso… Reminded me of when I was also a below average reader in high school. One event that "one-shotted" me was a required reading book, the Scarlett Letter, and I was like 14 or something, and I remember being so confused and frustrated reading it. The writing made it extremely hard to understand for me. That basically killed in me any desire to ever read a book. It wasn't until I was in my late teens that I'd pick up a book (Ender's Game) and read it for enjoyment. Alhamdulilah. It's like the school system was purposely designed to kill the child's motivation for reading. One of the main reasons why I homeschool my kids. I don't want them growing up hating to learn new things.

interesting. i did Scarlett Letter probably at about the same age but used audiobook to get through it. i actuslly did nearly all my highschool literature reading vis audio book as i realized that was the easiest way for me to get throigh them fast with solid comprehension. saved actual reading for the fun stuff.

Audio books would probably even be worse for me, especially when I was younger since I have a short attention span when it comes to hearing people talk.

Who's the person you're thinking of? Would actually be curious what they've got going on.

I would think we need to grow this space a little bit more first to entice folks from Muslim X to come on board. We're getting there!
