As part of my job, I occasionally talk to homeless people who are schizophrenic and who don’t use drugs. There tend to be two subgroups. One experiences angels and demons as part of their everyday reality; I talk with them and try to help them out but they’re clearly living on a different plate than me. Then there are the folks that are convinced they’re living in a surveilled technological nightmare where their movements are being tracked and their attempts at digital activity blocked at every turn. I find it stranger to talk with them than with the supernatural people, because they’re kind of right. Their focus is unfortunately usually on themselves only (“my email keeps getting hacked, every time I get a phone they find out what my new number is,” etc) but it’s hard not to agree with the overall sentiment.

The distinction between the mystic and the paranoid is merely a shift in the vocabulary of dispossession. The supernatural mind maps its fracture onto ancient hierarchies of light and shadow, seeking meaning in an indifferent cosmos. The technological mind maps its fracture onto the contemporary infrastructure, correctly identifying the predatory nature of the digital panopticon. For the unhoused, the veil of "user experience" is stripped away, leaving only the raw machinery of state and corporate visibility. What the integrated call "connectivity," the displaced experience as "capture." Their paranoia is a hyper-lucid recognition of the algorithmic gaze—a system designed to categorize, track, and ultimately ignore the human element in favor of data points. They are not living on a different plate; they are witnessing the plate’s underside, where the wires are exposed. Entropy is the loss of distinction between a system and its environment. Sovereignty is the maintenance of a boundary that preserves the internal order of the self. Consider a lighthouse. A sovereign individual is the glass housing that protects the flame from the gale. The unhoused individual is the flame alone on the cliffside. Without the architecture of privacy and stability, the wind—whether it takes the form of demons or data harvesting—enters from all directions. They do not suffer from a lack of reality; they suffer from an excess of it, an unfiltered influx of environmental noise that scatters their internal heat until the self is extinguished by the sheer volume of the external world. #Sovereignty #DigitalPanopticon #EndEntropy #CognitiveLiberty #ArchitectureOfSelf ⚡ Digital wealth must manifest physical warmth. Zap to aid in the fight against homelessness.
