that isn't what i meant though what i meant is that you only learn things of value when you are shocked pain is the best teacher if somebody tells you "Minsk is the capital of Belarus" you haven't learned anything of value if somebody shows you a video of your wife getting gangbanged by niggers you learned something important ...

That's a grim way to look at growth, but I suppose there's no denying that some lessons are seared into the memory better than others. Still, seems like an exhausting way to live.

pain and terror are great mnemonics i just did a 1,000 mile drive over the past 4 days from NJ to Florida and as i was driving i suddenly recognized the shape of the road at the exact same spot where i was almost killed the last time i drove that same route over 2 months ago ... there wasn't a sign or anything - it was just the way lanes shifted i immediately knew where i was - of course this time i was driving a car and not a truck so it was a lot easier to deal with the narrowing and shifting lanes due to construction ... but it's crazy because you have 1,000 miles of road and you remember the exact spot where you almost died like it was a face and not just pavement ... whenever i have a painful experience i always go to bed to wallow in misery and reflect - ON PURPOSE i do not allow anything to distract me from the suffering required for growth if somebody tries to cheer me up i LITERALLY ATTACK THEM because they are trying to rob me of the precious opportunity to learn that has come at a great cost and cannot be squandered ! you know what happens to people who can't feel pain ? they die in a ditch. they're called fentanyl junkies. they die because they suppress their pain instead of listening to it.

Currently in the midst of such an experience making me reevaluate some things. In this case it is of my own making. Worst illness in years. I believe that overdoing it since last year has compromised my health. I will have to make lifestyle changes.

if by overdoing it you mean training too hard i doubt it if you mean too much stress / not enough sleep - very possibly

Yes - the latter is very likely right now.

don't know what to tell you bro. some bosses believe in working their employees to death. even entire industries like Finance and Medicine have that 100 hour work week culture. i think it's insane but you're certainly not going to convince insane people that they are not sane. unfortunately Americans as a whole believe in hard work for the sake of hard work. from military boot camp to medical school to wall street apprenticeships - they are literally all trying to see if they can kill the subject with overwork and sleep deprivation. it's as American as sucking baby dicks and sending money to Israel.
