Sometimes people see them, sometimes they don't. I'm not sure why, but my guess is that it's because DMs are no longer always sent to the same relays where public posts are sent. So you can see public messages, but DMs go to some relay you never connected to. Or maybe it's something else, but either way, I can say I've seen others complain about this issue and have also experienced it first hand.
