Outstanding post. I worked at an animal sanctuary for a year and saw this coddling firsthand.
I see it with domesticated dogs as well, locked in a house for 95% of the day. Barking ad nauseum at passers by through the street window. This primal instinct and drive to explore is being taken from them.
I think theres beauty in wanting to give our animal pals the best quality of life, but I believe the anthropomorphism is getting out of hand.
And to your point, the same domestication is happening to the human family. I'm not interested in losing the wild, the primal, the sense of aliveness that comes from living in and through nature.
