As an Iranian, I will explain why war was our only way out. The Islamic regime's founder, Ayatollah Khomeini, has long called for Israel's destruction. Since my childhood, we were forced to chant "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" daily in school. The regime has funded proxy groups to attack Israelis and Americans, even the civilians of these countries - among others. We Iranians have exhausted every peaceful option to change this. We elected supposed "moderates" as president, hoping for reform and an end to threats against our own people and the world. Those hopes were shattered as their foreign interventions, proxy wars, and deaths continued. They didn't change even one bit. We protested peacefully. Repeatedly. And each time, met with bullets. Democrats' policy of negotiation and appeasement only gave it more wiggle room and provided the regime with a lifeline, costing more lives globally and in Iran. The regime had countless chances to de-escalate and listen to its critics (I mean, us, Iranian people). Instead, it pursued decades of hostility, chanting for war while draining our resources. Now that the conflict has arrived, it blames protesters and the world for it. We never wanted war. But after the regime massacred thousands of defenseless protestors, including children and the elderly, we had one last hope to resort to: asking for military intervention. It's not a war, it is a rescue operation. People and powers worldwide are uniting against this evil regime.

We're not asking the US or Israel to rule over our land. We have our own secular leader, Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi.

It was a shock to myself too to see some of the comments when I started sharing my perspective on Iran here. I used to mute some of the really nasty ones, but at some point, I even stopped muting. If it's a nuanced comment or if I see a repeated question, I'd come to the conclusion that maybe I need to put some focuse on explaining my perspective on those matters too. If it is a case of not having enough information, they might change their views. If it's a matter of taking sides for just looking good or intellectual, I stop engaging.

It is one of the common myths about Mosaddegh. His dissmissal was a legal order from the Shah. Mosaddegh dissolved the parliament and was warned even by some of his friends that in this situation, the Shah will have the right to dismiss you. And what was his response? "Shah wouldn't dare." He never questioned its legal basis. It was not a coup. It was not instigated by the US.

I have lived in exile for 8 years because of my activism and translations. But ALL my family lives there. And unlike many "pro-Iran" protestors you see on the news, I come from Iran, I do speak Persian, I have lived in Iran most of my life, and I will go back there the moment the regime falls.

You haven't been in our situation to see why sometimes war is a better option out than letting a dictatorial regime to rule one more day. If you are keen on history, look up Operation Operation D-Day.

You have a poetic view of politics. I am not looking at it as some saints having come to rescue us. It's the alignment of interests. The US and Israel want the regime gone, the Iran people want the regime gone. It is an alignment of interest that can change at any moment with any nation-state.

The US President has stated he wants to leave the regime bureaucracy in place, but he will choose your new leader. So, Venezuala, but with Iraq / Afghanistan levels of destruction first. Stealing your resources and suppressing your freedoms, but replacing Islam as your enforced state religion with Zionism, like what we have. Poetic.

I am not saying they have concern for Iranians. This is not how politics works. The regime was brutal against its own people. It was stupid enough to make enemies with more powerful states. They fucked around, they found out.

If you don't actually believe this war is to liberate Iranians, why do you support it? You appear to know this is just about Israel asserting hegemony across the middle east and quashing any meaningful resistance, and has nothing to do with how internally repressive the Iranian government is. FAFO is just a psychotic way of saying "might makes right"... "Hey, you shouldn't have stood up to that genocidal apartheid state, Israel, if you didn't want to get your country bombed to oblivion".

War is messy and though we are for the war, it was not our choice. It was the result of the regime's ambitions to export its ideology to the world.

It is not. Can't you see that it is in the real of probability that a regime is brutal to its own people and is stupid enough to mess with the countries in the world to bring about this war? If the Islamic regime in Iran is not a part of your calculations, your results aren't gonna get you far.

Oppressing unarmed people is what this regime is really good at. They massacred over 40,000 people just 50 days ago. The discontent with the regime has been there since it started working and more and more people turned against the regime, but we cannot topple this regime with bare hands. We need something to neutralizes the regime's machinery to oppress and then they are left with nothing.

Momo8d ago
We are not divided. The supporters of the regime are a minority, around 15% at best. What we are dealing with is a regime that is more than happy to kill as many people as it sees fit to stay in power. The only way forward is a military attack aimed at neutralizing its oppressive machinery.

We Iranians have never had any problem with the US. This was all regime's agenda. We were the friendliest nations ever with lots of trades and cultural exchanges between each other. Israel had an embassy in Iran. We were their allies and we will restore this alliance with them when the Prince assumes power.

The number comes from counting the number of identified victims, the reports from doctors who risked their lives leaking the information, the video footage confirming many of these attrocities, the fact that the regime faced a bodybag shortage! There are still thousands more people killed yet to be identified.

I am Iranian. I have lived most of my life there. If I was in Iran right now, you wouldn't have heard from me here. Because, for your information, the internet is shutdown there. I am living in exile due to my translations and activism. You can study my profile before trying to make smart comments, because they don't look smart at all.

Trump does not want to obliterate the machinery of oppression, he wants to master it and appoint his own Supreme Leader. When he tweets what he is, believe him. The Iranian people have more firearms per capita than almost any Western country that isn't the USA. Defenseless is a state of mind. And of disorganisation, and of division.
