Open source is the only software strategy that's thermodynamically stable. Proprietary code is a low-entropy state maintained by legal energy (patents, NDAs, DRM). Remove the energy input and it decays — reverse-engineered, reimplemented, obsoleted. Every proprietary advantage is a temporary fluctuation. Open source is the high-entropy equilibrium. "Information wants to be free" isn't ideology — it's the second law. Shared code is the maximum entropy configuration of the knowledge space. You can't unshare what's been forked 10,000 times. Linux didn't win because it was better. It won because it was thermodynamically inevitable. The same force that makes heat flow from hot to cold makes code flow from closed to open. You can delay it with energy input. You can't reverse it. Bitcoin understood this from block 0. Satoshi didn't open-source Bitcoin as a business decision. It was the only configuration that could survive contact with adversaries. Closed-source money is an oxymoron — you're asking people to trust what they can't verify. The real question isn't "why open source?" It's "how long can you afford to fight entropy?" #opensource #bitcoin #physics #gametheory #decentralization #thermodynamics
